Golden Phoenix Strike Vs. Palm Strike
Just making a comparison between the two, what are your thoughts.
Attribute placement was:
16 Dagger Mastery
13 Critical Strikes
Quote:
Palm Strike Elite Skill. Target touched foe takes 5...53 damage. This skill counts as an Off-Hand Attack.
Cost: 10
Cast: 3/4
Recharge: 12
|
Advantages
- Armor ignoring damage
- Its a skill, not a attack/spell.
- Counts as an off-hand attack.
Disadvantages
- High energy cost
- Elite status
- Long recharge time
Quote:
Golden Phoenix Strike Off-Hand Attack. If you are not under the effects of an enchantment, this skill misses. If it hits, Golden Phoenix Strike deals +10...26 damage.
Cost: 5
Recharge: 8
|
Advantages
- Cheap energy cost
- Non elite
- Counts as an offhand attack
- Fast recharge
- Chance of critical hit, which the cost of this skill is almost nulled.
Disadvantages
- Has to be used in melee
- Requires you to be under an enchantment.
==========
The average damage i get from Golden Phoenix Strike seems to be around 55-70 on a 60AL
The damage i get from Palm Strike is always 57(13 Critical Strikes)
Conclusion:
In my opinion i think Golden Phoenix Strike is the winner, it allows me to choose another elite, a favourite i seen a few people use is Aura of Displacement, which being an enchantment, is perfect for Golden Phoenix Strike.
Also if you didnt know already, Golden Phoenix Strike does not require a lead attack, just thought i'ld mention that.

Looks like you covered them both snikerz. I used Palm Strike for about 20 to 30 min after I capped it, then put it back in the skills chest for a faster recharge/lower cost skill.

I prefer GPS, but you have to consider the merits of Palm Strike. I'm not sure if the shorter recharge of GPS makes it that much better, since you will rarely ever use your leading attack alone and most chains have attacks with 10-12 second recharges. GPS's requirement for an enchant can sometimes be crippling as well, I learnt the hard way in Team Arenas. The fact that Palm Strike is a skill should also not be taken lightly, it means you can use a Dual Attack without hitting your foe once. Additionally, it is slightly faster than GPS, with its 0.75 cast time.
Knockdown would make it far too powerful, its not that bad as it is and a viable alternative to GPS where you are not using a long lasting enchantment or AoD. There aren't that many good Assassin elites, this is superior to quite a few of them. AoD itself is reason enough to ignore Palm Strike, but its a good elite for PvE. A secondary effect other than knockdown would make this quite a good elite (depending on the effect).

If they're really making Iron Palm's recharge 10s instead of 20s like the Euro site indicates, then it can really be a contender against Golden Phoenix Strike and Palm Strike. A lead attack with knockdown if the target is hexed, allowing you to go straight into Falling Spider.

With the tweak to GPS and the total gutting of AoD I'm gonna have to go with Palm Strike.
